Spelljammer-Adventures In Realm Space
Game Play Rules
These are some of my takes on specific situations in the game that may come up, some of these are required for you to accept, others are simply “warnings”.
Player Types- As the character creation is so open in this game people need to understand that their will be some players who are power gamers and probably some who are not.
Party Balance- 1 defender, 1 leader and 1 striker are the only requirements, past this it is up to the party. There should be substantial healing in the party, I suggest having a strong healer and a secondary healer, such as a cleric & a paladin. If the group has only a weak healer, such as an alchemist, with no secondary healer, It will be very difficult for them.
Play Style- The campaign will involve a lot of roleplaying but also a lot of combat. I plan on there being a lot of choices made by the party that effect the outcome of things, as well as being very open with the out of combat capabilities of the characters.
Game Difficulty- The more powerful the party is the more difficult the scaling of the campaign will be. This also applies to individual characters. The stronger a character is the more likely it is monsters will target them. It will take several sessions before i fully begin to understand the capabilities of the group.
Character Changing- I do not plan to allow players to change their character beyond anything the core books suggest, witch is being able to change a single thing each time you level up. However i will not enforce you stick to your character until the 3rd or 4th session with combat.
Character Death- Purposefully getting your character killed will result in me either kicking you out of the game, or punishing you by forcing restrictions on any replacement character (mostly in having less items and possibly a lower level). Accidental death will be dealt with on a per situation bases. This being spelljammer bringing the dead back is very common, however there are some cases where it still isn’t, and in such cases a new character of equivalent level will be made
Party Death- A total party kill is something i have never experienced, HOWEVER if for some reason it was to happen we would discuss as a group how to deal with it, the primary options being starting over, starting over but as a group of equal level as the one who just died, or simply redoing the encounter that resulted in your death and/or assuming it went differently.
Rules- If a rules discrepancy comes up during play it is fine to mention it, if I inform you we will discuss it later then i expect you to drop it and discuss it AFTER the game. As the DM i hold all rights of interpreting and house ruling, this is not a democracy and just because 4 of you think a rule should go one way does not mean i will play it that way. However the more of you that feel a certain way the more weight i will give my consideration twords that opinion.
Meta Gaming- Will not be tolerated, arguments on weather something is meta gaming or not will ALSO not be tolerated. See the previous entry. I am referring to arguing about mostly monster and npc stats, meta gaming among the party with themselves regarding themselves is fine.
